— Specialist care

Dementia care — done with patience.

We have invested deeply in our environment, our training, and our approach. Each person with dementia is treated as an individual — with care built around who they are, not just the diagnosis.

— Our approach

A specially adapted environment.

Burleigh House has invested significantly in creating an environment that is both safe and stimulating for residents living with dementia. Every detail — from signage and lighting to layout and colour — has been considered with dementia care in mind.

We understand that dementia affects each person differently, and that a person-centred approach is essential. Our staff receive specialist dementia training and work alongside residents, families, and healthcare professionals to provide tailored, compassionate care.

We are particularly proud of our use of Montessori-based therapy and Spaced Retrieval therapy — two evidence-based approaches that have been shown to meaningfully improve the quality of life for people living with dementia.

01

Montessori-Based Therapy

Adapted from the Montessori educational method, this approach uses meaningful activities and tasks to engage residents with dementia, improving their sense of purpose, capability, and well-being. Activities are tailored to each resident's interests and abilities.

02

Spaced Retrieval Therapy

A proven memory training technique that helps residents with dementia retain important information — such as the names of carers or how to use an object — by practising recall at gradually increasing intervals.

— The environment

A dementia-friendly home.

Safe & Secure

Our building has been adapted to ensure residents can move freely and safely, with secure entry points and thoughtful layout design.

Clear Signage

High-contrast, easy-to-read signage throughout the home helps residents navigate independently and with confidence.

Familiar Spaces

Communal areas are designed to feel warm and familiar, reducing anxiety and promoting a sense of belonging.

Sensory Consideration

Lighting, colour schemes, and noise levels have all been carefully chosen to minimise confusion and agitation.

Structured Routine

Predictable daily routines provide reassurance and stability for residents living with dementia.

Family Involvement

We actively encourage family members to stay involved in care planning, visiting, and activities to support residents' well-being.
